BERKSHIRE. Lock-ups at Aldermaston, Hungerford and Pangbourne.

The lock-up at Aldermaston is situated in Wasing lane, RG7 4LX near to the Hind Head pub.
It dates to the 18th century and is probably of earlier origin.
In the history of Aldermaston Court we are told that in 1533, Humphrey Forster succeeded to the Manor and was in dispute with one Francis Parkyns, a dispute which became quite violent. The upshot was that Parkyne waas eventually detained in the lock-up behind the village pub.
